Zig Ziglar (author) has a famous quote which goes:

"You can get everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want." Zig Ziglar "Secrets of Closing the Sale", 1984

I find that a terrific quote. I like it a lot. The thought occurred to me though that it just misses the mark for me. I reworded it and came up with this.

You can achieve everything you want if you help others achieve what they want. - Ambrose Liao!

That seems about right to me. It's a karmic thing. You reap what you sow, etc. I hope you have a terrific day and enjoy what you are doing and help others to achieve their goals!

I found it!

I was able to locate a LANPower charger for my eGO for only $60! I should receive it by the end of next week. It's amazing how challenging charging a 24V scooter with 2 12V chargers is! :-)

More later.

I've been really enjoying riding my eGO in to work every day. I have dared to take it on some major streets and it has done very well. The bright tail light really helps to keep drivers away. I've been looking for smooth and quiet streets to use to commute and so far am heading down towards the Potomac river and going in through Georgetown. Great stuff!

I rode it in yesterday and went downstairs to try and ride it home last night and it looks as if the charger has died. There were no lights on on the eGO. I at first thought it was the wall outlet that had died. I took the scooter into my office and plugged it into a known good outlet and the same thing happened. I need to find an inexpensive replacement for it.

I've ridden my eGO Classic to work now almost every day since the weather has cleared. There is a bike path that goes about 2 blocks from my house right into Georgetown. It's called the Capital Crescent Trail and the cyclists don't seem to mind that I am joining them for the ride in.

My batteries are partially sulfated (sulphated) so I bought a 12V desulfating battery charger made by Soneil, the 1206S. I've only charged the batteries once but it seems to have helped a tiny bit. I rode in "Go Fast" mode most of the way and had power to spare at the end.

I'm trying to video my trip somehow, but haven't found a good way to mount my digital camera on the handlebars yet.

I had the pleasure of finally riding my eGO Classic to work last week. It was a beautiful day and the riding conditions perfect. I took a bike trail that goes within a block from my neighborhood all the way in to downtown Washington, DC. I work just to the East of the White House. The trail is called the "Capital Crescent Trail." The ride is very gentle and paved for 90% of the way there. I catch it at the Connecticut Avenue and CCT intersection. Take it to the South West direction and take the crescent loop all the way into Georgetown where it exits onto K St. under the Whitehurst Freeway. I then zip across the GWU campus and right in front of the White House and into the basement of my office building. It gets me there refreshed and eager to get to work. I'm very lucky in that my office building provides a secure bicycle lockup room that also has a very conveniently located power outlet!

The trip is about 9 miles each way. Since it winds from Maryland into DC, it's almost completely downhill on the way in and conversely, almost completely uphill on the way home. The slope is very gentle so no issues, however, I have been concerned that my eGO might not make it home since it takes more energy to get home!

I am not getting full power when I charge my eGO until the charge light turns green so I have purchased a DIY desulfator kit that I will assemble and install to try and get the batteries back up to full charge. If that doesn't work, I plan on adding additional battery packs to the eGO to give it more range/power.

Stay tuned...

Now that I've purchased the eGO Classic, I was rummaging around and took another look at my poor forgotten Amplifier A7 scooter. Back about a year and a half ago, I was riding it to the Metro and hit a huge pothole. The county was rebuilding the sidewalk and redoing the handicap ramp at an intersection. I didn't see that there was a huge gap between the street and the curb so went through that 5 inch gap and broke the plastic rear axle of the A7. What a sad day that was. I loved the A7 and haven't been able to find a replacement axle for it. The A7's axle is unique in that it contains both the drive belt cogs on one side, but also a smallish disk brake rotor on the other side.

What I really loved about the A7 was the fact that it was relatively light (34 lbs) and could easily be carried on board the subway that I take to work. It saved me from having to take the bus every day and was great fun to ride at lunch time in downtown Washington, DC. I miss that tremendously. Ah well.

I will endeavor to come up with something creative and report back any findings (wish me luck!).

Here's a picture of the defunct brushes that needed to be replaced in my eGo scooter. Next to it on the right is the new brush. A very small part to have such a big impact. It took almost a complete take-apart of the scooter to get to it but the scooter was extremely well made and thought out. It only took 8 bolts to take the motor out and to replace the brushes.

As you can see, the burnt out one on the left looks kind of scorched and the springs are completely shot. They still have lots of material left in the brush as you may be able to see from the lines on the side of the brush, but it wasn't up to the job. The scooter had been used for about 3 years and they lived in a hilly area in Washington, DC so it probably had to be used pretty hard.

Oh, BTW, the brushes only cost $20! Thanks to AeroWhatt, eGo scooter Guru supreme!

Thanks,
Ambrose

I was able to pull apart the eGo scooter and clean up the inside as well as replace the brushes in the motor. They were pretty much gone and they were responsible for the slowness and lack of power in the scooter. The eGo is supposed to have a 1,500 Watt motor or the equivalent of almost 2 horsepower! It felt as if I was getting maybe half of that. Now with the new brushes, I am getting full speed as well as full hill climbing power now! WooHoo!

I've put some photos of the scooter being rebuilt up:
